7:40 A.M.
The melodic chime of the school bell was heard over the P.A. System at Riverwood high school, signaling the start of a new school day for the faculty staff and all the students attending. It was a breath of fresh air for Kasey, who knew that she would be safe and in good company here, as she'd had her birthday party crashed by some uninvited guests. She blew out her candles that night wishing she'd never see them again.
"Kasey Raide" Her homeroom and English teacher, Mr. Giron, an average man in his 40s raven-haired man obsessed with Greek mythology, and classic rock, who'd been teaching for 11 years.
"H-here" She muttered, her mind still thinking about last night.
"Hey, How are you doing" Danny mouthed to Kasey.
Kasey gave a small smile and a nod "Yeah, talk more at lunch?" She mouthed back a roll call finished. Mr. Giron strolled to his podium in the front of the class "Alright Class GOOD MOORNING! We're continuing with the Iliad. Today's lesson we'll be tackling the beginning of the Trojan war, but first let's do a little review"
9:00 Lane's conference room
David Lane was sitting in his conference room looking at a monitor screen mounted on the side wall vigilantly. It was displaying building security footage, he wanted to make sure everything was running like clockwork, he didn't want to deal with anymore unexpected setbacks.. It was at that moment when the door slid open, and Samson Stone and Nina Reyes his two highest ranking security officers walked in, Mr. Lane quickly brushed his blonde hair and tan suit as he shifted his glance towards them.
"Good Morning Samson, Good Morning Miss Reyes! I hope that this doesn't inconvenience you, just had a quick question" Mr. Lane stood up from his office chair to walk over and greet the two Security officers. It was a nice fall day, the natural light shining through from the windows behind David's desk illuminated the large room. Stone and Reyes quickly surveyed the room as Lane continued making his way to greet them.
"Oh not at all sir," Samson Replied extending his hand for a handshake.
" No problem at all sir, we're usually not busy till later" Nina said taking a sip of coffee and swallowing feeling just a little uneasy "You said you had a question? We've been keeping watch of every inch of the city looking for those heroes"
"Ah yes Nina I know, and I'm impressed. Ever since the last meeting, I can tell both of your performances has increased. Your response to last nights attack was handled well, You were able to detect that attack quickly, like you knew it would happen, is there anything you'd like to share as to how you detected it"
Samson and Nina exchanged a quick glance then Samson spoke up "Just being really careful, I was keeping an eye on Professor Raide sir, I don't know how much I trust him"
"Ah I see the old Keep your friends close and your enemies closer idea, I hope this doesn't cause a problem Mr. Stone"
"Don't worry it won't sir. It's not really that Mr. Lane, We've been getting some strange energy readings around the lab and city since the project. James had an old "energy alert system" he'd started to work on that detected some of it. we'd like to investigate it more ourselves if possible"
"Interesting. Thank you for letting me know your concern Stone. If you'd like you can come to the lab during the demonstration in a few days to make sure nothing goes wrong how does that sound"
"Sounds good sir"
"Thank you Mr. Lane"
"Glad we could meet, let me know if you find anything else, Have a good day"
"You too sir" The two replied as they left.
11:15 Marek Raide's office
How could this have happened, I've barely been able to get any energy yet last night that giant portal opened. I didn't expect this to happen. It should only happen with a stronger energy source" Marek pondered aloud as he paced around his cluttered office before returning to the Lab's testing floor. "I'm the one they want aren't I, Not Kasey, but then why attack her?" He was furiously raising his voice in the enclosed walls of his office"I don't understand! what are they after?"
12:00 Riverwood High School Cafeteria
It was the lunch period for Danny and his friends. The cafeteria tables were filling up quickly as friends groups gathered into their space in the crowded cafeteria. Danny was walking to his usual spot at the middle table in the very back of the room, where he sat with his usual friend group. He seated himself between Jason and Kasey, Kasey slowly walked over and sat down.
"So, what exactly happened yesterday" Danny asked "I'm sorry I was a little late"
"I-I don't really know, it all just sorta happened, there were these weird ghost like things, they were after me I don't even know why. “I think I actually punched one of them… Then that Onyx Haze guy showed up. No clue where he came from or where he went, but he felt like he...he felt familiar" She paused "My dad said he thinks those things here because of his research. I think it has to do with me being at the lab It's all so confusing, i'm still a little shocked" Kasey said her voice getting quieter and developing a sadder tone.
"It's okay, I felt a similar way back when my dad went missing. at least your safe now, it's a good thing that help arrived when it did" Danny said trying to console her, fighting back the urge to tell her the truth of Onyx Haze's identity
Then Kate walked over and sensing a tension she had an idea and enthusiastically greeting the group saying "Hey guys hows it going. Did you see they're selling homecoming tickets in the lobby? You guys should really consider coming, It was super fun last year, I'm sure you guys will enjoy it."
"Yeah it was pretty fun, I'm don;t have money on me right now, I'm probably gonna get mine Thursday Adam added on.
"hmm.. maybe I will " Danny said
"Jason? how bout you, I'm sure you'd like it" Kate cut in
"Eh, I don't know" Jason mumbled, shrugging his shoulders, keeping to himself "too many people".
